As one of the first five boulevards of Saigon in the early 20th century, Boulevard de la Somme connects from Bach Dang wharf in Saigon river to Place du Marché (modern Quach Thi Trang square, roundabout in front of the Ben Thanh mảket’s main entrance). The first train station, as well as the first trainway of Saigon (connecting Cho Lon and My Tho) were located on this boulevard.
