Located in the heart of the city, the Central Post Office is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Saigon. Designed at the end of the 19th century, the interior boasts ornate furnishings, a gorgeous pattern-tiled floor and soaring ceilings with a spectacular dome. Of special note are two painted maps created just after the post office was built. The first one, located on the left side of the building, is a map of southern Vietnam and Cambodia titled ‘Telegraphic lines of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia 1892’. The second map is of greater Saigon, entitled ‘Saigon and its surroundings 1892’. Besides being a tourist attraction, it is important to remember that this is, in fact, a working post office.
Comfort in the chaos
My partner and I enjoyed our stay at the Grand Silverland. It makes for a comfortable home base for tours in the area. The Breakfast is excellent, and the afternoon tea is a nice addition. The rooftop pool is a nice place for a break from the crazy streets below. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The location is central for easy walking to many interesting sights.
My husband and I stayed at the Grand Silverland Hotel and Spa for 4 nights. We absolutely loved our stay. On arrival we were given a room upgrade to an executive room which was fabulous. The bathroom was very large and the room was just lovely. All the staff were so attentive and the free afternoon tea was an added bonus. Position was great. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again if returning to HCMC.
